Hotch and Ali's International Title Fight Gets a Best-of-Three Rematch

TNA separates a personal grudge from the World Championship contender race, putting Jason Hotch's newly regained title back on the line.

Jason Hotch's second reign as TNA International Champion has a rematch already on the calendar. TNA announced during its October 15 iMPACT that Hotch will defend against Mustafa Ali in a best-two-out-of-three-falls match on the October 22 broadcast. The challenger is the wrestler from whom Hotch just took the championship, and their confrontation has already changed another title race.

The announcement followed the five-person ladder match for a TNA World Championship opportunity. Hotch was one of the contenders, but Ali ran in and pulled their dispute out of that match. Trey Miguel ultimately won the contract to challenge Leon Slater, while the International Championship rivals received their own return bout.

What Happened

At Bound For Glory on October 11, Hotch won the International Championship in a four-way match involving Ali, John Skyler and Special Agent Zero. Ali entered as champion, and Hotch left as a two-time titleholder. The result came after weeks of disorder inside the former Order 4 group, with alliances breaking down around Ali's leadership and control of the championship.

Four days later, Matt and Jeff Hardy's special iMPACT card placed Hotch alongside Elijah, Moose, Ricky Sosa and Miguel in a ladder match for a future World Championship shot. Hotch was close enough to threaten the contract when Ali intervened. The two fought away from the ladder, removing Hotch from contention. Rather than awarding Ali a World title opportunity, TNA announced a direct International Championship rematch with a different ruleset.

Why It Matters

The October 22 stipulation requires two falls instead of a single decisive pin or submission. That creates a different test for a newly crowned champion whose first priority is keeping the title, and for a former champion seeking it back. The advertised format is a confirmed booking, not evidence that either wrestler has won the future match.

It also clarifies two separate championship stories from the same television main event. Miguel earned the World title match with Slater at Destination X on November 15. Hotch did not win that contract, and Ali's interference did not change the International titleholder. The rivalry involving former Order 4 allies can continue without being confused with the result of the World Championship contender match.

What Comes Next

The announced Hotch–Ali best-of-three-falls title defense is set for the October 22 edition of iMPACT. That same broadcast is also scheduled to feature Rich Swann, Cedric Alexander, Fabian Aichner and KC Navarro competing to become the next challenger for the X-Division Championship, plus Avery Styles against Joe Alonzo.

These are advertised matches, not completed championship changes. Until the result is confirmed through TNA's official reporting and independent coverage, Hotch remains the recognized International Champion. The relevant distinction for the record book is between the date the match was wrestled, the date it aired and the point when its result became verifiable.
